In this tutorial Jeff Peterson demonstrates proper care and maintenance techniques that can prevent costly major repairs for any of your musical instruments. Jeff covers tips on how to properly assemble and disassemble your instrument, make emergency repairs to get you through your gig, and provides instruction on routine maintenance (valve oils, greasing slides, etc). He also demonstrates how to clean everything from the mouthpiece to the slides and tubing. This tutorial is aimed at both beginners and seasoned musicians.

Jeff Peterson began disassembling his toys at age 4. Upon taking up saxophone studies in the 6th grade, somehow these experiences and others led him into the field of band instrument repair. Jeff studied flute repair with David Straubinger and instrument engraving with Jason DuMars in addition to gleaning a wealth of information from his many friends at NAPBIRT. In addition he studied saxophone performance with master teacher Leo Potts at California State University Long Beach and has lectured at USC on the subject of saxophone maintenance and emergency repair. He owns and operates Horn Improvement, a multi-technician repair shop and retail store in Southern California serving a clientele of top studio, jazz and classical musicians as well meeting the needs of local students, schools and colleges.
